Membership Process
Scripture teaches that membership in a local church is the normal expectation for Christians. Through faith in Jesus Christ, Christians are united to Him and become members of His body, the church. The body of Christ is visibly expressed through the assembling of local churches. Both Christ and Paul pointed us toward membership for our encouragement, protection, and instruction. There is a four-step process to become a member:
Membership Matters
1.
All prospective members must attend our Membership Matters Class. The class covers our:
Church History
Statement of Faith
Church Covenant
Church Polity & Governance
Philosophy of Ministry and Vision
After attending the class, the prospective member will schedule a time for an interview with two of our elders.
Membership Interview
2.
The prospective member meets with two of our elders to recount God’s saving work in his or her life, ways they desire to serve at Park Avenue, and how to be involved in the life of the church.
Elder Recommendation
3.
At a regularly scheduled elders’ meeting, the elders review the prospective member’s testimony and desire to join Park Avenue. Upon receiving their collective approval, the candidate(s) proceed to the next step: congregational vote.
Congregational Vote
4.
At the end of our Sunday morning worship service, an elder briefly explains to the congregation how the candidate(s) have come to know the Lord, and gone through the membership process. A vote is taken, and with a majority agreement, candidates are admitted into membership at Park Avenue.
